Ghost Stories

Shadows of the Upper Peninsula

Just about a year ago, I published my first book, "Shadows of the Upper Peninsula". It is a ghost story that starts in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in Houghton, an area I know quite well! Though there are inklings of "Shadows" going all the way back to 2019, I started it over from scratch in October 2024, and finished it in June 2025. I officially released it the following month.

Writing a book is very rewarding, especially one where your imagination comes to life. It is kind of like letting people take a peek inside your head, seeing what you think about, the stories you tell, when you close your eyes.

"Shadows" is available in over a dozen online stores, including Amazon, Bookshop, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, and more.

Echoes of the Keweenaw

I am working on the sequel to "Shadows" now. It is called "Echoes of the Keweenaw", and continues the story of Kish and Lantashi, of Caoimhe and the "Haunt Hunters", along with introducing new characters! I am spending more time exploring the Land of Spirits, while also spending time in the Upper Peninsula in two different timelines.

It is turning out to be a complicated story, and I am taking my time. I am about halfway through now, just having finished Chapter 13.

Right now I am hoping to be done in the next couple of months.

Book Description

Below is the book description for "Shadows of the Upper Peninsula"

In the untamed forests of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, an ordinary day turns into a thrilling quest for three friends: history teacher Lee McKnight, physical therapist Samantha Harper, and fantasy writer Kish Chalice. Their lives are changed forever as they get lost in a mysterious fog and stumble upon a woman singing in an ancient language. Before they can investigate further the woman vanishes before the spellbound friends.

The fascinating ghost story quickly turns dangerous. Lee, Samantha and Kish find themselves entangled in the uncanny as people go missing. With the help of friends Lantashi and Rachel, these unlikely heroes embark on a supernatural adventure that will test their courage, resolve and their faith in one another.

The friends race against time as loved ones are swallowed up by the mists, pitting their skills and courage against supernatural forces and mysterious agencies.

Join Lee, Samantha, Kish, Lantashi and Rachel as they become embroiled in The Shadows of the Upper Peninsula.

Conclusion

I love creating characters, both in roleplaying games like Daggerheart, and in stories. A lot of the people in my books originated as a character in a game, both my own, and some that my friends have let me use.

My writing style is kind of a roleplaying style. I create characters and make them as detailed as I can. I then create a world and challenges for them. The different characters are shaped by the tasks I, the "Game Master", throw at them, and then they have to react to them. In a way, the characters write the stories for me, with me just giving them a push here and there.

Even my villains have their own motivations.

I hope to write many more books, and share many more characters, with the world!
